AutoEdge Awarded $1M NSF Phase II Grant to Advance Edge AI

A Major Milestone for AutoEdge and Industrial AI

I'm thrilled to announce that AutoEdge has been awarded a $1 million Phase II SBIR grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). This funding represents not just financial support, but validation of our vision to democratize AI for industrial applications.

The Journey So Far

When we started AutoEdge, we saw a fundamental problem: while AI was transforming industries like tech and finance, manufacturing and industrial sectors were being left behind. The reason? Existing AI solutions weren't designed for the unique constraints of industrial environments—limited computing power, real-time requirements, and the need for absolute reliability.

Our Phase I grant allowed us to prove that hardware-aware AutoML could work in these challenging environments. We demonstrated that by optimizing AI models specifically for edge devices, we could achieve:

  • 10x reduction in model size without sacrificing accuracy
  • Real-time inference on resource-constrained hardware
  • Explainable predictions that operators could trust and act upon

What Phase II Means for Our Customers

With this new funding, we're accelerating the development of several key capabilities:

1. Enhanced Hardware Optimization

We're expanding our platform to support an even wider range of industrial edge devices, from legacy PLCs to modern IoT sensors. This means our customers can deploy AI without expensive hardware upgrades.

2. Industry-Specific Model Libraries

We're building pre-trained models for common industrial use cases:

  • Predictive maintenance for rotating equipment
  • Quality control for manufacturing lines
  • Energy optimization for HVAC systems
  • Anomaly detection for chemical processes

3. Simplified Deployment Tools

We know that industrial engineers aren't necessarily AI experts. That's why we're investing heavily in user-friendly interfaces that make AI deployment as simple as configuring a PLC.

The Bigger Picture

This grant is about more than just AutoEdge—it's about transforming American manufacturing. By making AI accessible to industrial companies of all sizes, we're helping to:

  • Reduce waste: Our predictive maintenance solutions prevent equipment failures before they happen
  • Improve safety: Real-time anomaly detection keeps workers out of harm's way
  • Increase competitiveness: AI-driven optimization helps American manufacturers compete globally

Looking Ahead

Over the next 24 months, we'll be working closely with our pilot customers to refine and expand our platform. We're particularly excited about our partnerships with major HVAC manufacturers and chemical plants, where we're already seeing dramatic improvements in efficiency and reliability.

Join Us on This Journey

Whether you're a manufacturer looking to modernize your operations, an engineer interested in industrial AI, or an investor who shares our vision, we'd love to hear from you. Together, we can build a future where every factory, every plant, and every industrial facility has access to the transformative power of AI.

Thank you to the NSF for believing in our vision, and to our team, customers, and partners who make this work possible every day.

Onwards and upwards,

AutoEdge Team
